Goodbye to the whooper swans - February

These were taken the last time I went to Martin Mere. It was a very cold, dull and windy day so I only went out for about 10 minutes. The mere seemed rather quiet even though it was almost feeding time. The whooper swans were beginning to leave and as I type this (17/03/09) I believe that there are only about 700 left at the last count. It doesn't seem long since they were arriving from Iceland now when they have all left the mere will once again be drained and the vegetation will regrow.

About the same time I went for a walk with Sarah and Poppy - around the golf course . .

Did I hear someone shout "fore"??

Then on down the path past the farm near the railway line to meet our friends - well they are only our friends because we have polo mints in our pockets!

They looked almost as cold as I was but still pleased to see us.
