Arc de Triumphe

The next day was an early start and off to the Arc de Triumphe and the Champs-Elysees. The Arc de Triumphe was built by Napoleon to commemorate his victorious battles.

Beneath the Arch is the tomb of the unknown soldier who was buried on November 11th 1920

For the energetic (that's us then!!) there is a viewing platform at the top reached by 284 steps! Shame I hadn't had 3 weetabix for breakfast!

After a few minutes rest I was ready to explore. The views were breath taking and well worth the climb.

This is the Champs-Elysees looking toward Les Invalides.

And this is looking in the opposite direction towards La Grande Arche - the 20th century version of the Arc de Triumphe.

And this is the Montparnasse Tower which is not very photogenic in itself but has marvellous views from the top.
