M6 lorry convoy for the fuel protest

Read on teletext this am about a lorry convoy coming up the M6 this am travelling from Lymm in Cheshire to Carnforth near Lancaster. We had hoped they would be going slowly but the police (and government no doubt) were onto the case - they travelled at 40 mph and were confined to the inner 2 lanes. It was all over too quickly and we wouldn't have known it was imminent but the tv van in the next road did give us a bit of a hint!!

Here come the police so the rest shouldn't be far behind.

Bet she was cold on the top deck!

All over packing up time for the professional.

Homeward bound.

M'way returns to normal until of course the convoy returns this afternoon on the opposite side.

In search of bees again.

Went out in search for bees again today, it is true that there are not as many around this year. In fact this is the only one I could find and he didn't stay around long. I think his pollen baskets were so full he was ready to fly back to the hive.

The campanula seems to be growing out of control but as it's all in flower I can't chop it down just yet. This piece is doing a good job of hiding the tree stump.

The honeysuckle is in full bloom but still no bees around it!

And yes moley is still here digging up the garden. There must be more rooms and pathways underground now than we have in the house!

Knott End by the sea

It was another hot day so we only ventured out late afternoon, we decided to find the sea! Over the wall and down the steps and this was the view - looks like a l o n g way.

We saw quite a few crabs in the rock pools but as soon as they saw us they buried themselves in the sand so it was quite difficult to get a good photo. This one was already disappearing by the time the camera had focused.

This one was under water hence the shading on the photo.

Will we ever reach that ship?!

How much further is it?

Phew, back home for a well earned rest.

Sunset at Knott End

The weather had been fantastic, in fact too hot to go out really, so in the evening as it cooled down we decided to have a walk and watch the sunset over the water.

When we first arrived on the wall the sun was far too high but we strolled along and watched as the colours changed and the ships sailed by.

The sun slowly disappeared from view but the sky remained a picture.

This was the view as we went back down the steps into the caravan site.

Just wanted to try the new moon, nearly forgotten how to do it!

Martin Mere 2008

Downy Duckling week at Martin Mere has just finished. It is that time of year once again when all the babies are on show. There are still lots of eggs to hatch out and the nursery remains very busy.

This enormous mallard is patrolling the grounds and trying to have his wicked way with his counterparts!

Here he is near to a more normal sized mallard!

To date there are 9 baby flamingos.

He was not pleased with us today as we didn't have any bread for him.
