Ormskirk is a quaint market town in West Lancashire. On Thursdays and Saturdays the streets are filled with market stalls. It has not been taken over by the usual large shops and supermarkets, you can still find a local butcher and a greengrocer and a few others as you will see from the photos.
There are a couple of lovely arcades and alleyways.
This I could not resist - The Fairy Wing Repair Shop
The windows are full of all kinds of fairies, I would have loved to go inside to take some photos, perhaps one day I will pluck up courage to ask.
This church has both a spire and a tower, this can only be found in 2 other churches in England and these are both in Wiltshire. There is a lovely story that the founder had 2 daughters who could not agree if the church should have a spire or a tower so he built both to keep them happy!
Sadly the truth is slightly different - the spire was already built when 4 bells were brought from Burscough Priory following the dissolution in 1536. It was thought that the spire was not substantial enough to house the bells so a tower was then built.
