At last - the KINGFISHER!!

For the past few years I think I have been the only person at Martin Mere not to have seen the Kingfisher, it's been a standing joke!! Last Saturday I went for a walk round with a friend and there from one of the hides we had a brilliant view of not just one but a pair of Kingfisher. Of course I wasn't prepared but had a go - I didn't have a tripod or bean bag but fortunately did have camera with decent lens. These are the best of about 50. They are building their nest in the mud bank at the back which doesn't give a very good backdrop to the photos either.

At last I have finally seen them, hurray!!!!!

Thanks Liz for waiting so patiently whilst I merrily clicked away.

Easter w/e at Martin Mere

Spring is definitely here, love is in the air, nests are being prepared, chicks are hatching each day and protective parents are guarding their young.

The Asian Short Clawed Otters are staying out more now that the sun has arrived but they still prove difficult to catch on camera!

It's a tough job feeding all these birds

The Crested Screamers were in view for a change

The inevitable bath time

Awwwwwww!

Crowned Crane as greedy as ever

A Whooper Swan complete with radio transmitter remains on the Mere

What's going on over there?

Oh yes the usual biology lesson
