28th July 2007

Sue and I spent a lovely day at the Freeport marina. Unfortunately we spent all the money in the shops and then had none left to buy one of these boats so had to leave them where they were moored! Never mind there is always next year.

Our favourite walk.

Accident 26/07/07

This is my car of the week

Sadly my poor little car was attacked from the rear. It was sat in traffic waiting to go forward when there was an almighty bang!! It doesn't look much but if my back is anything to go by then I know how it feels!

Knott End 15/16th July '07

A lovely sunny day in Knott End, we went for our usual walk along the sea wall. At home I believe there are heavy thunderstorms!

When do we swop places? I'm sure it must be my turn to sit on the seat!

Taken from the car whilst travelling South on the M6

I really would like to believe that the rainbow ends over this house!!

14/07/07

Not many pix today as Sarah and I actually went to have a chat about voluntary work at the Mere - did I hear you say "phew" ??
Great excitement - 4 beavers were released here on Wednesday but haven't been seen since!! Well I exaggerate a little they have been seen late in the evening when all the visitors have gone home. They are now burrowing below the water line, it is hoped they don't burrow under the fence and out onto the main road just outside their enclosure! They have come from Germany and been kept somewhere in Devon for 6 months quarantine so they are now enjoying the freedom.

Anyone for mushrooms?

The flamingoes came really close to us today.

Then all of a sudden we had a nature lesson!!!

Still no beavers to be seen!

Sue's first visit to Martin Mere 11/07/07

As we stepped out of the car the first person we met was Fred, perhaps better known for standing in all weathers on the map floating in Albert Dock.

Well I did try to explain that we only feed the birds with feathers on their backs but would she listen!!

The mating dance??

This moorhen gave the pigeon a sharp peck whenever he got too close to the nest.

My favourites.
The window seems to be out of bounds now that the mating season is under way.

I think the gulls may just have out numbered the pigeons today.

They certainly didn't let the eider ducks have all their own way when it came to food.

As the black headed swan seems to have disappeared (gone to pastures new to look for a mate) I think we must now dedicate the black swan to Sue.

Meg and Mog giving the pigeon a run for his money.

Can't find this one in any of my books - any help please?

Tuesday 10 July 2007

Usual place - 8th July 07

We enjoyed the walk around even though the weather alternated between sun, cloud and rain, our coats were on and off like yoyos. It was interesting to see the new babies and how the other youngsters had grown. All the flamingoes now seem to be sitting on nests. Each pair have just one egg. They do not mate for life, they have a different partner each year - they obviously have the best of both worlds!!
This flamingo was having a break from sitting on the nest.

This common crane was a bit more photogenic than the crowned crane which wouldn't allow
us near him today. Well I supose he is allowed to be grumpy occasionally, apparently he lost his partner a while ago and is just not interested in another one at the moment. Happily there is another pair of crowned cranes hidden away from the public - it is hoped that they will mate if left alone - now that I would love to see - a baby crowned crane!!!!

The proud parent.

Oops can't quite get the hang of all this cleaning, now where did that other foot go to?

This nest was almost on the path, she didn't seem at all bothered by all the admirers.

This baby moorhen seemed so tiny and so fragile.
It was happy just watching it's mum having a wash.

The hebredian sheep are back again

This whistling duck was definitely posing for us.

This is the path up to the kingfisher hide - this is where the fox and owl where hiding.
