Sun!!

Over the weekend we had a lovely sunny day leading to a brilliant sunset!! We went to the top of Parbold Hill where to one side there was a fantastic view of Gathurst, Orrell and the viaduct and on the other side - well I will leave you to have a look!

Feeding time?

Mum I can't reach the food!!

Feeding time at the huge vats.

The geese arrive. This was lovely to watch them circling around the mere before landing.

Errrrr did we hear someone mention 'grain'?

Worth the wait!!

Saw this robin way above my head near the kingfisher hide, it was singing its little heart out!

Cuties!!

Now I know these are not brilliant photos but I just had to include them. I tried for ages to improve on the second photo but couldn't even come near to getting them with mouths open. All the others were just a blur of the parent bird's wings as she fed her chicks so you will have to make do with these! The very next day they had all flown the nest so there is no chance now!

This is our baby dove which has just flown the nest leaving us free to collect the apples.

And this is the parent watching proudly from the nearby roof.

Martin Mere 12/09/07

We were very lucky today and it was a lovely sunny day so though some of the ducks were vegging out in the heat the flutterbies and bees were out in force. There were a group of macho men with huge lens on their cameras who thought they knew it all, would love to see their end results, bet they are no where near as good as mine !!!!!!!!!

This is apparrently a Comma butterfly.

This just may be a Ringlet (??) unless you know better?

Small tortoiseshell.

This I am not so sure about - I think need another book - cheap book shop here I come!!
No I have found it - it's a Painted Lady.

M6 and ???

This group is especially for you Anya! The first ones are my arty photos taken from the dash in the car whilst travelling down the M6 at about 8.30 pm tnight.

And these two are from the Shard Bridge again - see no mention of sunset . . . . oops I said it!!!!!!!

Martin Mere

Well this is my attempt at a dragonfly, it's not nearly as good as the one on Anya's blog, I am sure she bribed hers for a 'fly past'!

The flamingo chicks are growing fast, their beaks now look far too big for them

Oooooh it's a bit cold today!!!!

A lesson in how to sleep?!

Still no beavers but they have been working over night to join up the two ponds.

My favourite whistling duck.

The skies above!

Lovely sunset tonight but sorry folks as I only went to sleep at 5 am this morning I didn't feel like going out in the car to take pix. These were taken from the bedroom window - I promise to try harder next time!!

This was doing some fantastic loops above the garden today. Oh and please note the colour of the sky!!

We have a new addition in our apple tree! We still can't pick the apples, the parents are on guard 24/7.
