Corio Raptors

Corio Raptor, the registered charity providing care and rehabilitation for birds of prey, have been at Martin Mere over the Easter holidays. Children could get up close and even stroke some of the birds most of which have been rescued from unsuitable homes or nursed back to health following injury. Where possible they are quickly returned to their natural habitat.

The Eurasion Eagle Owl named Boo

The White faced Scops Owl named Otis -

he was so sweet watching the world from his high perch

The Barn Owl - Timone was so laid back he was unbelievable.
Apparently their feathers have adapted to allow air to pass through them without making a sound so allowing them to fly silently. The down side is that the feathers have lost their waterproof effect so Barn Owls do not fair well in wet weather.

The Vulture looked very forlorn

The Buzzard named Sark

I'm watching you . . . .

Breeding season begins

A welcome change in the weather and Martin Mere comes to life! The breeding season starts, the black swans have 2 cygnets and the black neck swans have 5. Others are pairing off and busily making their nests.

The black swan cygnets were born mid February -

Almost a month later they are swimming happily with parents.

The black neck swans had their cygnets next and these 2 enjoy a free ride.
