Moley update - again!

Went out in the garden today looking for critters to practice on but couldn't really find any interesting ones. Did take some pix of the rockery plants though and a Flame of the Forrest

And then - there it was - yes another mole hill and yet more mole holes in the lawn. For every hill we find there are dips and troughs in the surrounding lawn. If I should slip and break an ankle who or what do I sue??

The new one is not far from the previous hills (as you can see from this pic). We are still rolling these nearly every day and have had a hose pipe down one of them to flood the area - well obviously that didn't work did it?!

Then around the front of the house they have been at it again in amongst the new plants.

Looks like they have had a whale of a time there!

Hang on are the moles moving to pastures new, does this person know something we don't?

Pets corner

During a holiday break I had exclusive rights to my friend - well she is a friend when I have the key to the food cupboard!

No prizes for guessing the name!

No show without punch!

Sunset over Standish

Suddenly realised tonight that I was about to miss a beautiful sunset. If I had jumped in the car to drive somewhere I would have probably missed the best so I took to the bedroom windows. Hence no lovely fields in the foreground just roof tops and telephone wires!

Preston England Temple, Chorley

Following on from Botany Bay -
After a few wrong turns we eventually found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is a magnificent building with a lovely drive and gardens leading up to it. As you will see the gates were firmly shut but it was quite late in the evening by the time we found it. Even the colour of the sky seems to add to the beauty of it. I was interested to find it as they have a family history centre here - that is when and if I ever have time to go. Members of the Church consider it a religious obligation to trace their family history as they believe that they will be reunited with family members in the afterlife.

An outing with the camera!

Went for a ride last Sunday evening with camera in tow. The hawthorn hedges are lovely, these photos were taken in a lay by on the A6.

Same lay by with view of Bolton ground

And again looking towards Rivington.

We then went on a bit further and on one side of the road there was a lovely sunset -

And on the other side - Botany Bay

There is one boat moored up I wonder if they are waiting for Botany Bay to open, should think they will be first in the queue.

Does look peaceful though doesn't it? Rather inviting, wonder if it's Joy, she is on the boat at the moment.

Moley update!

This an update for all you mole fans out there!
We kept to our side of the bargain - ie no more rolling the lawn or trying to hit them with a spade. We left their mounds totally untouched. Did they keep their side, oh no, at first it was just the one mound that kept growing - and growing.

And then this morning low and behold two more mounds. I suppose they have tried to hide one of them under the hedge. If we really wanted to dig up the lawn and relay it we would be happy for the help but we don't! Please, please get the message mr mole and family!

Our neighbour has his garden covered in pebbles and they are heading his way, should I warn him or should I just leave it and encourage them on their way?

Talpa europaea / Moley

We have never actually seen moley or any of his family we just have to count the mole hills each morning. He has been all over the garden but does seem to like one spot and that is under the apple tree! He has been there for over a week now and we have tried filling in the tunnels, rolling the lawn, banging it with a spade (I have read that they are very susceptible to concussion and will move away if the surrounding ground is hit with any force), you name it we've tried it.

Alas none of this has worked so last night we piled heavy plants and the roller onto the affected area and waited!

Needless to say we didn't have to wait too long - about 6am this morning they were busy at work again with not just one mound -

but two - they had even tried to come up in the middle of the plants. We give up - moley please have your family and quickly move on!

Garden flowers in May

We seem to be able to cultivate these first two flowers quite easily. I will only supply the Latin names for these as I think you should know the more common ones!
Traxacum Officinale

Bellis Perennis

Then of course the Apple blossom is beautiful in May but doesn't last long.

Oh and - well - I know this isn't a flower but she wanted to be included.

Think this is the best side!

Now I am bored.

Dicentra Spectabilis (Bleeding Heart)

Not too sure about this one but it may be Arctotis (African Daisy) unless anyone else has any ideas please?
